Avantree Audition Bluetooth 4.0 NFC with aptX codec – Review
Avantree Audition Bluetooth Stereo NFC Headphones are just one pair of a wider range of Bluetooth headphones available at MobileFun.co.uk. Most of us have heard of Sennheiser, Bose, Beats By Dre and others that have been around for a while, but Avantree is something I have not heard of so I thought this is going to be an awesome opportunity to test lesser known brand. First time you open the package you get the headphones (of course), stereo audio cable, USB to micro USB cable, operating instructions, warranty, and an extra pair of cushioned ear cups.
This is one of the few Bluetooth headsets offering Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, micro-USB support, 3.5mm jack, an integrated microphone and Near Field Communication (NFC). If you are wondering why would you need NFC on your headphones, well in short it will allow you to quickly pair your headphones with phone/tablet. Currently the price is 68.99€ lowered from 82.99€ (17%) at MobileFun.co.uk, so this is a good deal because most of other NFC Bluetooth 4.0 headphones come from off-label Chinese manufacturers where companies only stamp their own brand on it for the same price range.
NFC is appearing in more devices these days because it allows easy pairing without any of the traditional Bluetooth pairing process which is still present if your device has no NFC. This is great if you want to use headphones with multiple devices, just tap the NFC-enabled device to the headphones and the connection will be established. The headphones, when not connected to any device, will automatically shut off to save power. The NFC signal extends only a few centimeters from the headphones, but it’s ok because you only need to tap your phone to the NFC tag on them. Sometimes the protective case on your phone can cause problems, but that’s expected.
- Bluetooth 4.0 stereo headphones for wireless music steaming.
- High-fidelity stereo sound quality with aptX codec.
- Easy one touch pairing with NFC technology.
- Additional audio line input, for use when battery is low.
- Never miss a call – auto switching between music and calls
- Ultra-soft over the ear pads with adjustable headband.
- Long music time – up to 40hrs.
- It can connect to two phones.
- Gaming and chat and VoIP (Skype, MSN, etc)
The Audition’s red and black-matte design feels soft and pliant to the touch. The controls for Volume, microphone, power button and the NFC array are located on the left earphone. Controlling volume is done by holding the button, and if you just tap them it will either skip forward or backward whatever music track you’re listening to. Red, woven fiber sheaths the cables connecting the earphones. A red, silicone rubber material accents the tops of the headphone speakers. It’s a great looking design with a professional finish. They are very sturdy and rugged making them perfect for people on the move or if you want to invest your money in something that will last.
- Turning the headphones on and off,
- Manually putting the headphones into pairing mode,
- Answering or ending a phone call,
- Pausing or skipping audio tracks,
- Adjusting the volume up and down
Avantree Audition headphones are quite comfortable given the ear cushioning and its light weight, they also clamp to your head nicely if you’re on the move so walking or jogging with them is not a problem. The ear cushions were also large enough to allow my ears to fit comfortably and achieve a good seal, and using them for an extended time won’t hurt your head or ears.
Avantree advertises the operation range by class 2 which is 10m, and it works very well but the range can be reduced by large walls. In my experience the headphone have worked in my entire house once connected to my Bluetooth enabled device. Considering they are intended for mobile use then we don’t need to worry about range so much, but it’s nice to know they can work in a house without any problems.
There is no mention what kind of battery is used in Audition headphones, but if we consider the size of the headphones it should be around 600-800 mAh Lithium polymer battery. Avantree is claiming the battery will last up to 40 hours of playback, and the standby should be around 20-days. Considering everything I was very happy with battery life and second charge is lasting me over 2 weeks now.
With an impressive battery life, the Avantree Audition Headphones will keep the music playing all night. Offering 40 hours of music playback and 20 days of standby time, the Audition Headphones are sure to be ready whenever and wherever the moment takes you.
The Avantree Audition will work with all NFC enabled devices, laptops running Windows and Ubuntu, while the interesting part was connecting them to my 50 inch LED TV so watching a movie with them is an amazing experience. The audio quality on all tested systems was very high.
Avantree’s Audition headphones offer a great audio quality thanks to aptX codec which will provide you with High-fidelity stereo sound. The over-the-ear design with a closed-back will get you better bass performance. The sound was crisp, without distortion, at all volume levels. By design the headphones block out a lot of ambient noise so you need to be carefull when using them near traffic. The audio from the microphone is good and will do it’s job, but I have no intention to use them for calls when I can enjoy movies or music with them. Just remember these headphones are not directly comparable to USB or wired devices using magnets and large drivers in terms of loudness, but for Bluetooth headphones they are awesome. If you decide to use them wired you can expect better sound when compared to Bluetooth.
These headphones are excellent wireless for your NFC-enabled Android devices, and even your entertainment systems like media center or just your home TV (if Bluetooth enabled). They offer quality, functionality, design and affordable price tag. If you are looking for a wireless Bluetooth 4.0 LE headset you will love the Avantree Audition, and even if you don’t have NFC enabled devices you will be very happy with them. Be sure to check out the Avantree Audition at MobileFun.co.uk.
